So, you may not have heard about Posca, but it actually used to be a very popular drink! It used to be popular among the Plebs of Ancient Rome, and it's actually pretty good.
In all honesty it's a simple recipe. You barley need any ingredients, and chances are you probably have all that you need. I'll be giving you my recipe for the drink but adjust it to you tastes as needed, and you may need to.
For this recipe you will need:
- Red Wine Vinegar
- Honey
- Water
- Spoon
- Glass
Pretty straight forward right? Okay, now on to making the damn thing! Pour 2 teaspoons of Red Wine Vinegar in your glass, then 1 teaspoon of honey. Fill your glass with water, then stir well with spoon until honey has dissolved, or nearly dissolved. Enjoy!
See, wasn't that an easy recipe? Since I'm not a nutritionist/doctor I can't speak to the health effects of this drink.
I don't usually talk much about history on this blog, but in my spare time I'm a huge history buff. If you enjoy learning about the Romans, I found this simple drink as a cool way to connect with the ancients.
Like I said above, you may need to play around with the measurements to get something to your taste. Actually the original recipe was just the Vinegar and water, honey was added as a sweetener sometimes, and I think it's way better with honey.
If you made it, then tell me what you thought of it. Was it good? Bad? Or are you going to change it up? I'm interested to hear your thoughts, and I hope you enjoy the drink!
According to the Bible, posca was the last thing Christ ever drank, while on the cross.
ReplyDeleteActually, vinegar-based beverages remained fairly common up through the 1800's. Americans used to drink stuff called switchel, which was basically posca flavored with ginger or maple syrup. Lemonade has largely supplanted these drinks.
I've experimented with a lot of different varieties, and my favorite is a mix of seltzer and balsamic vinegar.
Interesting! I've heard of switchel before. It's kinda cool how these drinks have evolved over time.
