The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina Season 1 Review

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Poster

The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina is my new guilty pleasure

I watched The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina over the course of two days, and for all it's cringey moments, and cheesy parts, I found myself helplessly watching this show nonstop because I got invested in the characters.
Sabrina's birthdayThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina follows Sabrina Spellman, a gal that's half mortal and half witch. On her 16th birthday just is supposed to sign her name away to the dark lord, and join the church of night, becoming a true witch and join the ranks of the coven just like the rest of her family. There's one, well more than one, problem, if she goes through with this, and that would be, Sabrina would have to abandon her mortal life and basically give up her free will to serve her new dark master. Yet when the time comes for her to decide, she runs away from the path of night, and attempts to find a middle ground in all of this mess. Will she eventually end up with the dark lord and sign his book? Or will she stay with her friends and keep going to her regular school and see her boyfriend? Watch and find out!
Sabrina visionThe Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for it's faults is actually a good show. The acting is done well, the cast for the most part has done a decent job, the cinematography is actually pretty interesting, and for the most part, many of the characters will grow on you throughout the shows first season. Granted there are some really disgusting parts in the show, but hey there are worse things that have been made to scare people.
So the acting in the film is actually somewhat fantastic  in certain regards. It's a bit clunky at first, and the actors are trying to find chemistry with each other and you can really feel that especially in the first episode. Sabrina is played by Kiernan Shipka, and her name might not sound to familiar, but you probably heard of a little show she used to be in called Mad Men.
Her Spellman family is portrayed by, Lucy Davis as Hilda, Miranda Otto as Zelda, and Chance Perdomo as Ambrose. The way Sabrina interacts with her family is good, and they have sort of a natural chemistry amongst themselves.
Then amongst her friends are portrayed by, Ross Lynch as Harvey, Jaz Sinclair as Rosalind, and Lanchlan Watson as Susie. Out of the three, Sabrina has the best chemistry with her boyfriend Harvey. Don't get me wrong, her friends are her friends, but it's just that their relationship with each other seems a little stiff at times, and I think it's more a problem of the script than the actors themselves. There are a bunch of other characters in the show but I'm not going to go into naming them as of yet.
Now to the horror of the show, because if you didn't realize this, but this show was released just days before halloween. The actual scares in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina are kinda good at times, not all the time, but when it's effective, it's pretty good. I heard that this show uses a ton of practical effects and I would believe that, and it does effect some of the scenes in interesting and particular ways. Now to some of the actual scares. When this show wants to pull off some scares, it knows what it's doing, but sometimes it can fall a little flat. There are a couple of scenes in

the show that stand out to me. For example there are a couple of jocks that are picking on her friend Susie, so Sabrina enlists the help form a couple other witches to help teach those boys a lesson. And this is minor spoiler warning, as this happens within the first two episodes before she is supposed to pick sides. The other witches will be recurring characters as a side note. So Sabrina and the other witches, whom are sisters seduce the boys into following them out into the towns mines and they pull a prank on them to make them
think they are making out with the girls, but they aren't, more so like each other. So Sabrina takes a picture and that breaks the spell and the jocks realize what they are doing, and Sabrina uses that as blackmail against them not to pick on her friend. Yet the sister witches want to take things a little further with their scares and decide to horrify the boys a little more, until the run out of the mine in terror.
Are there problems with the show? Yes, yes there are, but can you look past them? I think so. They interject some modern politics a little in the beginning, and take that as you will. Also some of the scenes that play out are cheesy. I mean this show is made for teens mostly, but there is still enjoyment to be had if you're outside of the demographic.
In the end, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a fun show that I will be looking forward to seeing
the next season. I do recommend seeing this show to anyone who would hold any such interest in a witch drama/comedy/horror show. It's not perfect and they are still working out some of the kinks, but don't let that stop you from having a good time this halloween season. So sit back, relax and pull out the popcorn, because you are in for somewhat of a surprising fun ride, and I'm going to end this by saying that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is my new guilty pleasure.

final score: 4/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would

The Batman Movie Review

The Batman Movie Review A Solid Noir Film I went and saw The Batman the other day with one of my buddies and I must say, we really enjoyed it. Granted I don't think this movie is for everyone. The Batman follows Batman (Robert Pattinson) during his second year of crime fighting. When the mayor of Gotham is killed by The Riddler (Paul Dano), it is up to Batman with the help of James Gordon (Jeffery Wright), and Selina Kyle (Zoƫ Kravitz) to stop him. From a visual point of view, The Batman is gorgeous. Every frame is a painting. The acting is solid, the plot is solid. The musical score is outstanding. I personally loved the film, but there are some things in it that could off-set some Batman fans. I typically get into the acting first, but like you've probably already heard many reviewers say before, the city is a character in this film. Gotham feels real, grounded, and certainly not a place you'd want to visit. Corruption and crime run rampant at every level of society. The
