Update: I'm Sorry, More Reviews Coming Soon

Hey guys, So, I'm sorry I haven't been posting for the past couple weeks. I've been busy working on a project, and it's taken a lot of time. Now it's almost complete and I should have some reviews coming out soon. I have about three movie reviews in mind, and they'll be out during the first week of April. I strongly apologize for my absence and I'll try and do better. If there are any specific movies you'd like for me to review, please leave a comment and I might get to it. I thought I owed you guys an explanation, so again, sorry for no new posts these past few weeks. I'll do better in April. Yours, The Quintessentialist

Silent Film Week! The Egyptian Mummy Movie Review

The Egyptian Mummy Movie Review A Comedic Take On Future Horror The Egyptian Mummy is a 1914 silent film and as far as I can tell, it's the first film about mummy's out there.  The Egyptian Mummy is about a man who's attempting to impress a girl he likes father by becoming wealthy. He plans on doing this by selling a fake mummy who's really a homeless man to the father who wants to run scientific experiments. Shenanigans ensue. I don't think many people have heard about this little film and that's okay, but it's definitely worth the watch.  The acting is pretty decent for 1914 and it looks as if all of the actors were having fun with the film. There are very few actors in the film, but they all do a decent enough job. Each charters' motivation is clear, and I applaud the actors for their portrayal. The camera work is pretty basic, but for the time it was still will put together over all. The music fit the scenes nicely and I found myself

Silent Film Week! It Movie Review

It Movie Review A Simple But Fun Silent Film It, is a 1927 silent film starring the original it girl, Clara Bow. The plot of the film is simple, yet it's still fun. It follows a young shopgirl named Betty Lou (Clara Bow) as she sparks a romance with her boss. Like I said, the plot is simple, but the movie is actually pretty good. This was the first Clara Bow film I've seen and I can see why she was one of the top actresses for her time. There is a bit of wit and charm to her character and she plays it well. I greatly enjoyed her acting, and after seeing this film I want to see some of her other films as well. I've heard her film Wings  is pretty good. I might even check out a collection of her work at some point. Honestly though, she was a a pretty good actress. For modern audiences though, the plot may seem a bit simple. Just remember the time period and how new film still was during this time.  The film is labeled as a Romantic Comedy. I didn't fin

Silent Film Week! The Dentist Movie Review

The Dentist Movie Review Not My Favorite Charlie Chaplin Film, But Still Good So, The Dentist is a 1914 Charlie Chaplin film and obviously one of his early works. It's not my personal favorite, but it's still somewhat comical. The film centers around the problems going on at a dentists office. It's a pretty short film clocking in at under 15 minutes. Like I mentioned above, the movie was released in 1914. Just think about it for a moment, you're watching a movie that's over 100 years old and the comedy still holds up, how many modern films will be able to say that in 100 years? As always, Charlie Chaplin gave a fantastic performance. He got better as he got older, but his younger self was still pretty good.  The camera work was pretty good for the time. The music had such a classic ring to it, you know you've heard it before. Overall, The Dentist is a nice little short film from Charlie Chaplin. final score: 3.8/5

Silent Film Week! The Finishing Touch Movie Review

The Finishing Touch One Of The Best Comedic Duo's The Finishing Touch is a 1928 silent film starring Laurel and Hard. I must say, it's not my favorite silent film, but The Finishing Touch is still pretty good.  The plot is pretty simple, Laurel and Hardy are hired to finish up some construction on a house, but things go wrong for them. I really like the simplicity of silent films sometimes. There can be such a lightheartedness about these types of films, and there's something about them which just feels right.  Stan Laurel, and Oliver Hardy are fantastic comedians and it shows in this film. Granted a few of the slapstick jokes fall a little flat, but there are some laugh out loud moments contained within the film itself. I like the creativity of The Finishing Touch . The film contains some well placed cuts, and if you blink, you'll miss them. It adds to the overall comedy as well, and it can be greatly appreciated. The Finishing Touch is a good film.

Silent Film Week! A Trip To The Moon Movie Review

A Trip To The Moon A Classic Film You Should See At Least Once A Trip To The Moon is a 1902 film, which in every sense of the word, is a classic. The plot of the film is simple, a group of men take a trip to the moon. Once on the moon they encounter moon-men and have to fight them off, and attempt to return home to earth. If there ever was a classic film, A Trip To The Moon would be it. It's one of the oldest movies we have, and it's not that bad. I think everyone has seen the famous face on the moon before, well heck, just scroll up to the poster. The set design is actually pretty interesting. It looked like they put a lot of effort into making the movie given the time period. The acting itself is pretty interesting, because movies were still new, and most acting epicene still came from stage acting. I personally think the actors in this film did a fine job. The film clocks in at under 20 minutes and even though it's short, it certainly still should be watched

Silent Film Week! Sherlock Jr. Movie Review

Sherlock Jr. Movie Review A Good Comedy, Which More People Should See Sherlock Jr. is one of those silent films which you might have heard of, but probably haven't seen, and boy should you see it! Sherlock Jr. follows a young film projectionist (Buster Keaton) as he dreams of becoming a detective.  Then the projectionist is framed for stealing a pocket-watch from the girl he like's father. It's a pretty simple plot and things are pretty darn straight forward in Silent Films. Sherlock Jr. is a fantastic comedy and has great slapstick. Buster Keaton is a fantastic actor and comedian. He's upper with with the greats among the likes of Charlie Chaplin. Though Charlie Chaplin is more of a household name today, don't discount Buster Keaton though. The man has great acting chops and he sure knows what he's doing. Like I said, the plot of Sherlock Jr. is pretty straight forward and simple. I like how much they accomplished in a 45 minute film. You migh

Silent Film Week! Modern Times Movie Review

Modern Times Movie Review My favorite Charlie Chaplin film It's been awhile since I last saw, Modern Times, but this movie is gold.  Modern Times starts out with a Factory Worker (Charlie Chaplin) as he's working on some machines. Then through a series of events, he runs across a woman and they end up together. So, I oversimplified the plot, but don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic movie! The comedy is great, and if you like slapstick, then this is the movie for you. Honestly I cannot understate how incredibly funny this movie is. If you've never seen any of Charlie Chaplin's works, then this is a fantastic place to start. The man had a true talent for comedy. He's such an engaging actor, he surpasses most film comedians of today in pure skill. He's so good your mind is so sucked in by what's happening on screen, you don't care that he's not really talking, nor is anyone else.  This film was made towards the very end of the sil
