History Week! The Last King

The Last King is a 2016 inspired by a true story historical film originally titled Birkbeinerne, and. boy was this movie a real missed opportunity.

The Last King follows Skjervald (Jakob Oftebro) and Torstein (Kristofer Hivju) as they must get the King of Norway's infant son to safety before those that murdered the king would seek to kill his son as well and claim the throne for themselves.
Alright so being Norway and all, you might think this would be a viking style of film, but it's not. It actually starts just after the viking period had ended. The movie takes place in 1206 during winter.
The sets and battle sequences are pretty cool. Actually some of the battles are very cool, as you have essentially warriors skiing down slopes and fighting each other.
Now onto the acting in this movie. Here's where things get tricky. The actors in the film did a fine job and I give credit to them. Though I watched the English dubbed version, and they just did a piss poor job of dubbing the actors. I mean seriously, you can tell that they didn't even try within the first five minutes of the film. It was really immersion breaking and gave an off putting feeling to the film.
I don't know much about the actual history of this movie, but it did peak my interest to learn more about it. So, I think I might just look in the the real history that's behind The Last King, sometime soon.
Also there's one scene towards the beginning of the film, where one guy is pressed for information and he gives it up so easily. It could just be the dubbing but for a character that was otherwise kinda cool, they did him a major disservice in that scene.
In the end, The Last King is not a bad film, but the version I watched was immersion breaking. I can't believe I'm saying this, but you should watch the original version with subtitles, and I hate subtitles. I'm only giving this film a lower score because of the terrible dubbing which ruined it for me. But hey, watch for yourself and let me know your thoughts below.

final score:2.5

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review This Was My Dad's Idea Well... I went and saw Dora and the Lost City of Gold today with my dad, and... the film was a lot funnier than it has any right to be. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a live action adaptation of the Dora tv show on Nickelodeon. Dora, now a teenager, is sent to the City to live with her cousin, Diego, while her parents go exploring for a lost City. When her parents go missing, Dora and her new friends go and search for her parents. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the movie wasn't half bad. There is a ton of tongue and cheek humor. There is some cringe to the Dora and the Lost City of Gold too, but remember, this is a movie made for kids. As a kids film, it does a fine job. The acting was fine, and for a kids film, everyone did alright. Isabela Moner, who played Dora, did a good job portraying the character from what I remember about the show when I was very young. What surprised...

Norsemen Netflix Show Review So Far

Norsemen Netflix Show Review So Far The funniest show I've seen in years I've been watching a show on Netflix called Norsemen, and I swear this is the funniest show I've seen in years! I can't understate how funny this show can really be, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say about 90% of the jokes land. Norsemen starts off in 790 AD, and follows a few Vikings and their slaves. The show goes through their lives and their trials, but it's done with a comedic spin. If you haven't yet, watch the trailer above to get a better idea of the show. I will say this, this show reminds me of Monty Python ! Some of the jokes Norsemen  are gut busting, and will almost have you rolling on the floor laughing. In an age of bad comedies this show is gold.  I just started watching season 2 the other day, and I just want to keep watching. The episodes are about a half hour long each, and it's the perfect time frame to get the story across. I wouldn't c...
