Gifted Movie Review

So I just finished watching the movie Gifted for the first time, and I know I'm a bit late on reviewing this one. I wanted to see it in theaters but I didn't really get the chance to. Anyways, I honestly thought that the movie was pretty good. The actors did a great job and the young girl just reenforces what I said when I asked  when did child actors become amazing?  Because the young actress in this film does a really good job overall. The story follows a young girl who is a math genius, and she lives with her uncle, but her grandmother wants to take her away from him. In a way the plot is simple enough, but it is done in a way that is really enjoyable. Granted the movie is not perfect, but it is more of a feel good movie, and every once and awhile I do enjoy watching a film like this one. The camera work was really good. The lighting fit the tone of the film perfectly. Yet the music wasn't as good as I thought it could be, but please don't get me wrong, it's

Why Video Game Music Is The New Classical Music

I should start this off by saying I'm not going out and buying soundtracks to video games, but I am starting to appreciate it as the art that it is. My musical tastes typically lean more towards rock, and I don't really care for most pop, rap, or country music, (that will be a different post) though there are some exceptions within each genre. I think rock is my favorite but I admit that it's not for everyone. I have more recently been getting into more classical music, specifically Beethoven. The man is a freaking musical genius. Moonlight Sonata third movement, is just amazing. But when you cross this with more of a rock/metal vibe you get  this , an amazing mix of genres that create wonderful music. It's not a big secret or anything that classical music isn't that popular right now, nor will it be popular for a while again probably. However, the classical scene is thriving in video games it appears, and I believe that the genre should embrace this! Even if yo

Why I Hate Opening Credits

Well, not all opening credits, but most I should state for the point. You know what they are, they tell you who's in it and who made it during the first few minutes of screen time. It's not like that comes at the end of the film, nope not at all... oh wait... To me it takes me out of the atmosphere of the film, I do prefer just a title card placed in the film, it gets straight to the point and it is simple and sometimes artful enough to really bring you through the first act of the film. But some of you may be yelling at me, "But that's what opening credits do!" You exclaim metaphorically loudly at your screen, or maybe not. But my question to you is, "Why do we have to sit through the same credits twice?" I came to watch a movie, not watch the credits. The reason why I say this is, if the movie was bad, like really really bad then when it's over and the credits roll I don't have to sit through the credits, I can just leave, but again if the

Mindhunter Season 1 Review

So a few days ago I finished watching season 1 of the new Netflix show Mindhunter. I have to say that this show is pretty freaking good. The show takes place in the late 70's following two FBI agents that are trying to figure out the psychology of Serial Killers, by interviewing them. The two main characters agent Holden Ford (Johnathan Groff) and agent Bill Tench (Holt McCallany)  are very interesting characters and they work really well off of each other. Holden is the more optimistic character and Bill is a bit more pessimistic, but they play off of each well enough to compliment their work. The camera work is really well done in this series. The color scheme is fitting for the overall tone of the show, and it is very effective. The music is on the weaker side a bit, and this is something they should work on going forward, however I'm not saying that it's bad, it just needs a little more work to be done on it. Many of the secondary characters are very interesting, ev

Justice League Movie Review

So last night I saw the new justice league movie, and it has some good... and some... well... um... there's also some bad. Ben Affleck is probably the worst part of this entire film, he is a terrible batman. Flash has some good lines. Wonder Woman does a pretty good job. Cyborg is okay, nothing to great about his character yet, but there is room for development. Aquaman is probably my favorite out of the Justice League, the guy has some pretty good lines. The camera work was done well. I can't think of a really bad shot in this film. The color scheme was also really nice. The music however sounded really generic, which was a big let down. The villain wasn't that good, I mean you know what he wants to do and why, it's just... he seems like a recycled character. There's nothing new or exciting about him. He's just not that good, and they should have developed him more. But overall this was an alright film. It was a step up from Batman VS Superman. I would reco

Murder on the Orient Express Movie Review

So I just saw Murder on the Orient Express and it was alright, but it was refreshing to see a mystery film. It's a simple plot really, a detective is trying to solve a murder on a train. The question is, is it done well? The movie starts out a bit week and some of the actors are overacting. Granted the main character was portrayed extremely well, given that I haven't read the book. The music was there when it needed to be, and there was silence when there needed to be, and I applaud the movie for this. Another thing that I found enjoyable on the technical level was the coloring of the film, which was crafted perfectly. There are some plot holes in this movie though, which that can get a little annoying, but the mystery is intriguing. I can honestly say that I did not see the ending coming. It was a very well done twist and it was a nice surprise. The movie like I said before starts a bit weak, but as it progresses it does become stronger, which is very good. Yet overall t

When Did Child Actors Become Amazing?

Okay is this just me, or in the past few years child actors have started to become amazing?  Given between tv and film, we have Stranger Things, IT (2017), Logan (Laura, Logans daughter), and more to come I am sure. In the past though child actors had a bad reputation in film. We have all seen a movie with an annoying kid, and the kid actor was cast to be the annoying character. Which is kind of sad if you think about it. Sure there were some good child actors in the past, but it seems more recently that we have been getting better and better child actors. So why is this? I think that people are just getting tired of the annoying kid and they want to watch the adventurous kid instead. The kid that can act like an adult but yet remains childish. In a way it's almost like there's a balance that needs to be reached. So why haven't child actors been respected as much as they have now? I think it's because that the major studios viewed it as to risky. It is safer to play

Daddy's Home 2 Movie Review

So I just went and saw the movie Daddy's Home 2 and it wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but there are some laughs still. There is a lot of cringe and cliché's in this movie which really detracts from the films entertainment value. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg do a good job in this movie as they would in any movie. Those two actors really work well together and it would be nice to see them in another film together. Overall there is a few good jokes, but I would rather watch the original over the sequel for this film series. final score: 2.7/5

Why Fox's X-Men Franchise is the best Superhero Franchise

This is completely my own opinion and I am writing this in Nov. 2017 for future reference so I don't know how things will change in the years to come. Now that that's out of the way, on to the article! :) I want to start by saying that I'm not a big fan of superhero movies, but once and a while I do like to see one. I should address my thoughts on the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe. So First off with the DCEU. I will admit that I liked Man of Steel, it's not great but it's not amazing, it's just something I would watch on tv if there was nothing else on. Batman vs Superman was a bit of a mess, there were a few good parts but it wasn't that good, though I did really like the opening to the film. Suicide Squad was entertaining but I think it was done wrong. WonderWoman was the best out of this franchise so far, and it was pretty good, but I think it had a weak ending. Overall the DCEU is alright, but a bit mindless fun that want'
