1917 Movie Review

A Triumph Of A Film

I just got out of seeing the masterpiece of a film, 1917 with some friends. I'm glad as hell I went and saw this true Triumph of cinema.
1917 follows two British soldiers given orders to deliver a message calling off an attack. They are racing against the clock with less than a day to deliver the message. With danger lurking around every corner, will they make it in time?
I want to continue to praise this film as it really was fantastic. The cinematography was beautiful, the colors were gorgeous, the acting was superb, the score was flawless, and the Directing was amazing. I cannot understate how great this film is.
Starting off with the cinematography. The creative choice to make this a one long take was well decided. There are some cuts in the film, and you do know where they are. However, it never looks like the film cuts, but you know when it does. The long takes were really masterful. The amount of dedication that the cinematographers had for this project is astounding.
I want to take a moment to talk about the film's color. I cannot say this enough, but this is a beautiful film. The colors contrast and work together so well, it draws you in and doesn't let go. I'm very pleased with their choice of coloring.
The actors! Oh, the actors! I want to applaud everyone in this cast. There wasn't a single bad performance. It appeared as though each and every actor was dedicated to their role no matter how large or small. They really brought this film to life. The actors who played Lance Corporal Blake and Lance Corporal Schofield, Dean-Charles Chapman and George MacKay were brilliant! They embodied their characters to a T.
I do want to take a moment and give a warning. 1917 is not for the faint of heart. There are very few fight scenes, but they do show the horrors of WWI and they don't hold back. I think you as the viewer should know this going in, but it adds to the realism.
The music was beautiful. I don't think I'm going to go out and by the soundtrack, but one song in particular that occurs towards the end of the film is haunting. That one song will stay with me. There wasn't any bad pieces in the score. It's solid music and it fits the tone of the film perfectly.
Sam Mendes has outdone himself. I think 1917 will be one of the films he is most known for. This is one of those career defining films, and I think this one might ascend him to one of the greats of cinema. I wasn't too familiar with his work, but I have seen a few of his films before. Now I would consider myself a fan. I'm looking forward to see what he does in the future. It's obvious his dedication to this film. It felt personal, and it shows. Great job!
If you're looking to go and see a masterful film that is a true triumph of cinema, go and see this masterpiece. 1917 will not disappoint. I cannot say this enough and I will say it one more time, 1917 is a triumph.

final score: 4.8/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would

The Batman Movie Review

The Batman Movie Review A Solid Noir Film I went and saw The Batman the other day with one of my buddies and I must say, we really enjoyed it. Granted I don't think this movie is for everyone. The Batman follows Batman (Robert Pattinson) during his second year of crime fighting. When the mayor of Gotham is killed by The Riddler (Paul Dano), it is up to Batman with the help of James Gordon (Jeffery Wright), and Selina Kyle (Zoƫ Kravitz) to stop him. From a visual point of view, The Batman is gorgeous. Every frame is a painting. The acting is solid, the plot is solid. The musical score is outstanding. I personally loved the film, but there are some things in it that could off-set some Batman fans. I typically get into the acting first, but like you've probably already heard many reviewers say before, the city is a character in this film. Gotham feels real, grounded, and certainly not a place you'd want to visit. Corruption and crime run rampant at every level of society. The
