Uncharted Movie Review

Not As Good As The Games

I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment.
Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt.
As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused.
Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playing this character. He doesn't come off being very interested in his character either.
The plot of the film takes a few things from the games while trying to tell its own story. It should have committed to one or the other. The writers went for the most bare bones approach to telling the Uncharted story, it is shameful. There were a few alright action scenes, but that doesn't make up for the lack of charm this globe trotting adventure claims to have.
The cinematography was alright. Pretty standard. What get me is the music. They should have gone all in with it, cause from what I remember, the Uncharted games have fantastic scores. I wish the film would have dug into that more.
If you've been dying for an Uncharted film, you'll have to keep waiting. If you want to see a high budget fan film, well, then this is the movie for you. I would recommend waiting for this to come out on streaming if you're dead-set on seeing it. Uncharted isn't worth seeing in theaters. This had a lot of potential, but in the end, it was the let-down I feared it would be.

final score: 2.7/5

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review This Was My Dad's Idea Well... I went and saw Dora and the Lost City of Gold today with my dad, and... the film was a lot funnier than it has any right to be. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a live action adaptation of the Dora tv show on Nickelodeon. Dora, now a teenager, is sent to the City to live with her cousin, Diego, while her parents go exploring for a lost City. When her parents go missing, Dora and her new friends go and search for her parents. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the movie wasn't half bad. There is a ton of tongue and cheek humor. There is some cringe to the Dora and the Lost City of Gold too, but remember, this is a movie made for kids. As a kids film, it does a fine job. The acting was fine, and for a kids film, everyone did alright. Isabela Moner, who played Dora, did a good job portraying the character from what I remember about the show when I was very young. What surprised...
