Shazam! Movie Review

Cringey, Dark, Funny

I just got back from seeing the movie Shazam! with a buddy of mine, and it was pretty good with some minor flaws.
The movie follows Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a foster kid who keeps running away looking for his mom. When he moves into his new foster home, he befriends Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer). Billy is chosen to become a champion and gain the powers of Shazam(Zachary Levi), thus becoming a superhero. Billy and Freddy go out and attempt to figure out Billy's new powers, but an evil looms shaking to take the powers of Shazam.
Honestly, this is one of the better DC films out there, heck it might be their best one yet. I found the movie to be highly entertaining. The actors did a great job and the colors really popped within the movie.
Zachary Levi kills it in this film! Asher Angel did a pretty good job as well, but I thought Jack Dylan Grazer was probably one of the best parts of the film. Granted there was some cringey lines in the movie but I don't fault the actors for that, I blame the script writers. Other than some cringey dialogue from time to time, everyone did pretty well.
What surprised me most about the film is it's darker moments. Trust me, there aren't a ton of them, but when they happen, oh boy! You do not really see it coming!
What really works is the comedy. The trailers presented this movie in a comedic light and it delivers. It plays off of some old tropes, and it does it effectively. They add their own flair as well, and there are a few really good laugh out loud scenes.
I should also note that the run time can feel a bit long. Not all the time, but there where a couple of scenes when it felt like it was dragging a smidge. It didn't happen often, but be aware that you might feel it too.
Overall I really found myself enjoying the movie. It felt more like an old school comic book with the tone and color scheme which was really appreciated! If you're looking for a good time at the theater, then you might want to check out, Shazam!

final score: 3.7/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would
