ReMastered: Devil At The Crossroads Movie Review
A Good Musician Documentary
ReMastered: Devil At The Crossroads was a pretty good Netflix documentary about one of the greatest blues players of all time, Robert Johnson.
The film traces the short life of Robert Johnson. What's interesting is it interviews his grandson, and at least one person who knew him. Among other musicians who were influenced by his music.
I honestly thought this was a nice short documentary. It's under an hour long and you never feel the length of the film. There's a sense of mystery surrounding the man, the film held my interest and didn't let go.
What I found surprising about this movie, was it's use of animation. The visuals are well presented and make the myth and truth of Robert Johnson pop into your imagination. I found this to be quiet unique and enjoyed it greatly.
The musicianship presented in the film is nothing but raw talent. Even the modern musicians who played a bit in the film did a fantastic job. Robert Johnson's music was interesting to say the least. His style of guitar playing was so revolutionary for his time.
I didn't know much about the man accept for the myth which surrounded his talent. Getting to know who he was, I got to see the tragedy of his life. I found out in this documentary, Robert Johnson was the first 27 Club member.
The overall feel of this film is... I don't know how to say it. There is still so much we don't know about the man, even when we do find out more about him, the myth persists. ReMastered: Devil At The Crossroads is a fantastic documentary if your looking to learn a little something about music history.
Final Score: 4.5/5
