Pulp Fiction Movie Review

Better Than I Remember

Like I said in my Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Movie Review, I'm not a big Tarantino fan. Yet the other day I rewatched Pulp Fiction with a couple buddies of mine, and it was better than I remembered.
Pulp Fiction follows a few people as there lives intertwine together in the underground of society.
I think that's the shortest movie synopsis I've ever written. The acting is fine, and so is the directing. The jokes land most of the time and the action is Tarantino's signature
I think it's always impressive how Tarantino can assemble such an array of talent. John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Uma Thurman, etc... It seemed like all the actors had a fun time with this film.
Tarantino has a very unique directing style. You know you're watching a Tarantino film if I just plopped you down in front of the screen and only showed you one scene. What I don't understand is his seeming obsession with long runtimes.
For the most part, the jokes in Pulp Fiction were pretty good. There were a few misses, but it's nothing major. When the jokes land, it's a very smooth landing. I think it's because of the talent behind the film. The actors really embody their work, and even at the time, they were fantastic at their job.
The lighting of the film was alright, but I would have brightened it up in a few scenes. There were just a couple of moments that seemed a bit dark for me. One thing that's really outstanding for Pulp Fiction is the opening theme. The theme song for the film as a really good beach rock vibe and I love it!
The action in Pulp Fiction goes without saying, it's good. I don't think it's great or the pinnacle of action, but it's good. Action is Tarantino's playground.
I don't think Pulp Fiction deserves the cult status it's achieved. The film is not that good. It's good, but again, it's not that good. If you're a Tarantino fan you're probably treating Pulp Fiction like it's the holy grail of film. But for the rest of us, Pulp Fiction is a decent flick we'd watch when there isn't much else on.

final score: 3/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would
