Bad Times At The El Royale Movie Review

A Very Tarantino-esque Film

Yeah I know, I know, this movie came out last year. But I didn't get the chance to see it last year so I'm doing the review for it now.
Bad Times At The El Royale follows a group of strangers as they stay at a hotel which is on the border of California and Nevada. Each guest has a very different background from one another, but not everything is as it seems at the El Royale.
I left the description vague cause if you haven't seen the film yet, there would have been spoilers if I'd written more. Bad Times At The El Royale was a strange film. Good, but strange. I think it works towards the films advantage in the end.
The Director of Bad Times At The El Royale, Drew Goddard, did a fine job. I believe this is one of his few directorial roles. As mentioned in the subheading of this review, the film is very Tarantino-esque. If you told me Quentin had directed this film instead of Drew Goddard, I probably would have believed you. Drew Goddard did a fine job overall.
This film has a large ensemble cast which the main characters are portrayed by Jeff Bridges, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, and Chris Hemsworth. There are a few more which you may know such as Cynthia Erivo, and Lewis Pullman. The actors and actresses of Bad Times At The El Royale all did a fine job and really enveloped their characters.
The bit of mystery to the film is intriguing, and I think they fitted the puzzle together pretty well off by the end. I will way I still had a few questions by the end of the film, but most of what I wanted to know was answered.
The music in the film is pretty good and it does add to the story, but I found it to be a mixed bag on the song choice. Some of the songs are very well done, but I think they could have done slightly better in a few instances.
The editing in the film is very well done. They do a couple of flashback scenes, but I found them to be well placed and made sense for each scene. I would have liked to have seen a little more of the characters backstories but they probably gave just enough time for each. This was just a personal thing for me. But overall, I thought they did a fine job with editing.
One thing I wish they would have shown more of was the hotel itself. I mean they do show a ton of it, but they don't always interact with it. There's clearly more to the hotel than what they show on screen, and I think out would have been fun to see the characters explore more of the rooms, even if they were just passing through for an action scene.
If you're looking to see a Tarantino style of film, and you haven't watched Bad Times At The El Royale yet, you may just find yourself pleased. Also just a quick note before I end this review, just like in Tarantino fashion, don't expect everyone to survive the end of the film.

final score: 3.5/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi...

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review This Was My Dad's Idea Well... I went and saw Dora and the Lost City of Gold today with my dad, and... the film was a lot funnier than it has any right to be. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a live action adaptation of the Dora tv show on Nickelodeon. Dora, now a teenager, is sent to the City to live with her cousin, Diego, while her parents go exploring for a lost City. When her parents go missing, Dora and her new friends go and search for her parents. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the movie wasn't half bad. There is a ton of tongue and cheek humor. There is some cringe to the Dora and the Lost City of Gold too, but remember, this is a movie made for kids. As a kids film, it does a fine job. The acting was fine, and for a kids film, everyone did alright. Isabela Moner, who played Dora, did a good job portraying the character from what I remember about the show when I was very young. What surprised...

Penny Dreadful City Of Angels Season 1 Episode 1 Review

Penny Dreadful City Of Angels Season 1 Episode 1 Review  Had To Think About This One A Bit If you haven't noticed, I'm a fan of Penny Dreadful . I did address my early thoughts on the new series a little while ago , and now that it's out, I thought I would give my thoughts on the first episode. For the description I'm going to quote IMDB , " Los Angeles, 1938. LAPD detective Tiago Vega and his partner, Lewis Michener, investigate a murder. While at City Hall, Tiago's activist brother Raul Vega battles with the fiery Councilman Charlton Townsend over the construction of California's first freeway. Meanwhile, Peter Craft, the head of the German-American Bun, meets Elsa, the mysterious mother of one of his patients. Sensing danger, Tiago's mother Maria pleads with Santa Muerte to protect her family as the rising tensions in the city threaten to explode." From what I've seen from other reviewers has been very mixed. And here's my two...
