The Haunting Of Hill House Season 1 Review

A Terrifying Series So Far

I'm a little late to be reviewing The Haunting Of Hill House, but what's 1 year right? Right? Okay, I'm sorry, I should have gotten to this show last year, but I got to it this year, so you guys will just have to sit through this one.
I'm going to be a little lazy and copy the IMDB page explanation for the show, "Explores a group of siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, and forced back together in the face of tragedy, the family must finally confront the ghosts of their past, some of which still lurk in their minds while others may actually be stalking the shadows of Hill House."
The cast sucks you into the show without missing a beat. I was hooked from the first frame to the last, and I binged the first season in 2 days. This is terror done right. The acting is good, the tone is good, and it's good on a technical level as well.
I've never heard of this cast before, but by golly they have some serious acting chops. The child actors do a good job as well, because we're in some sort of alternate timeline where child actors got good all of a sudden. The adult actors in The Haunting Of Hill House also did a fine job. They have chemistry between them and I'm not sure how much they got to know each other before filming, but it seemed as if they knew each other for a long time before.
The overall tone of the show was impressive. It built up the terror when it needed to, and you could feel the tension. The show also uses jump scares effectively. Maybe I should rephrase that, they use jump scares the way they were meant to be shown. If you get easily frightened, this show will scare the pants off of you!
Now, the show does have a few downfalls. First off it jumps through time, which isn't really a bad thing. But the events are sometimes told out of order and it takes a second to adjust to when the events on screen are occurring. Also, the ending of The Haunting Of Hill House was a little bit of a let down. It wasn't the worst ending (I'm looking at you Dexter and The Sopranos), but it still wasn't great. They built up a certain message in the earlier episodes and it sorta fell flat at the end. Don't let that discourage you though, it's still decent.
On a technical scale, the show was good. Lighting is a huge thing in horror shows/films, and they knew what they were doing. The sound design and music were also well done. However, I wasn't the biggest fan of the title track for The Haunting Of Hill House. The camera work was really fun to watch. I think the cinematographers had a blast filming this series. The editors also did a fine job, and they did a great job hiding things in plain sight. Try and catch everything while watching, The Haunting Of Hill House.
If you're looking for something spooky to watch this October, I highly recommend checking out the series, The Haunting Of Hill House. Again, this comes with a warning, if you get easily scared, don't watch The Haunting Of Hill House alone.

final score: 4.5/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would

The Batman Movie Review

The Batman Movie Review A Solid Noir Film I went and saw The Batman the other day with one of my buddies and I must say, we really enjoyed it. Granted I don't think this movie is for everyone. The Batman follows Batman (Robert Pattinson) during his second year of crime fighting. When the mayor of Gotham is killed by The Riddler (Paul Dano), it is up to Batman with the help of James Gordon (Jeffery Wright), and Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) to stop him. From a visual point of view, The Batman is gorgeous. Every frame is a painting. The acting is solid, the plot is solid. The musical score is outstanding. I personally loved the film, but there are some things in it that could off-set some Batman fans. I typically get into the acting first, but like you've probably already heard many reviewers say before, the city is a character in this film. Gotham feels real, grounded, and certainly not a place you'd want to visit. Corruption and crime run rampant at every level of society. The
