True Blood Show Review

Better Than I Thought It Would Be

So, I watched True Blood... is the main character a literal walking dumb blond joke? Yes. Is the show a bit cliche? Yes. Is True Blood absolutely hilarious? Yes. This is perhaps one of the funniest vampire shows or media I've seen.
True Blood follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) a telepathic waitress at a local small town bar in Bon Temps Louisiana. She hears everyone's thoughts, except when one night a vampire named Bill (Stephen Moyer) walks in. Vampires have come out of the coffin and the whole world now knows about them. Sookie and her friends and family soon get themselves entangled into a darker world than they thought they knew.

Sookie Stackhouse fairy, True BloodThere is way to many characters to mention in one review. But I will give a big round of applause for this cast, because they looked like they had one hell of a good time making True Blood. I will warn you,  DO NOT show this show to younger viewers. You've heard of tv being referred to as the, "Boob Tube" well... she show does contribute to that a bit. This show doesn't shy away from violence either. It has guts, which is more than most shows can say.
Some of the plot lines get a bit convoluted and overcomplicated. There are some characters they completely change for the worse, and others for the better. Thankfully, most of the cast keeps true to who they are.
The earlier seasons are perhaps the best. True Blood does a good job of establishing it's world, but it does get silly at some points. Here's the thing though, True Blood doesn't take itself very seriously. Even in very dramatic moments, it can be somewhat comedic. The show switches it's tone like a humming bird flaps it's wings. You might be thinking there's no way in hell they could pull it off. Yet somehow, they do. I have no freaking idea how they did it, but True Blood somehow figured out to keep things light in very dark situations.
Sam and Arlene, Sam's Bar, True BloodThere are some really freaking bad vampire film and media out in general. I'd say True Blood is on the better side of this pole. Don't take the show too seriously and you'll probably find yourself enjoying it.
I do want to mention the theme song. By golly, I think True Blood's theme song is one of the best I've ever heard for a show. It certainly has made my top 5 favorites. Scroll down to the bottom of this review and I'll have a youtube video where you can listen to the song.  Even if you decide to not watch the show, please check out the song.
Another thing I like is how True Blood will poke fun at itself. It know's it's flaws and how it can get over the top sometimes, and they do make fun of their own shortcomings in a fun way. It's sort of refreshing for a show like this not to take itself too serious.
Eric Northman, True BloodThe lighting for the show is well done overall. The sound design was also well done. The camera work was pretty good and there are a few creative shots throughout the series I did appreciate. On a technical level, they did good.
The cast really has a good chemistry with each other. There were some characters I wish they would have delved into more, but we can't get everything. The relationships they do show are for the most part, well defined.
I think this review is getting long enough, and I could write a couple more pages on just the characters alone because they're so entertaining. If you're looking to watch True Blood, this is one of those turn your mind off and enjoy type of shows. Don't take it seriously because it's not meant to be taken serious. Kick back, grab the popcorn, and enjoy a decent vampire show, because True Blood is one hell of an entertaining show.

final score: 4/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi...

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review

Dora and the Lost City of Gold Movie Review This Was My Dad's Idea Well... I went and saw Dora and the Lost City of Gold today with my dad, and... the film was a lot funnier than it has any right to be. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a live action adaptation of the Dora tv show on Nickelodeon. Dora, now a teenager, is sent to the City to live with her cousin, Diego, while her parents go exploring for a lost City. When her parents go missing, Dora and her new friends go and search for her parents. I can't believe I'm going to say this, but the movie wasn't half bad. There is a ton of tongue and cheek humor. There is some cringe to the Dora and the Lost City of Gold too, but remember, this is a movie made for kids. As a kids film, it does a fine job. The acting was fine, and for a kids film, everyone did alright. Isabela Moner, who played Dora, did a good job portraying the character from what I remember about the show when I was very young. What surprised...

Penny Dreadful City Of Angels Season 1 Episode 1 Review

Penny Dreadful City Of Angels Season 1 Episode 1 Review  Had To Think About This One A Bit If you haven't noticed, I'm a fan of Penny Dreadful . I did address my early thoughts on the new series a little while ago , and now that it's out, I thought I would give my thoughts on the first episode. For the description I'm going to quote IMDB , " Los Angeles, 1938. LAPD detective Tiago Vega and his partner, Lewis Michener, investigate a murder. While at City Hall, Tiago's activist brother Raul Vega battles with the fiery Councilman Charlton Townsend over the construction of California's first freeway. Meanwhile, Peter Craft, the head of the German-American Bun, meets Elsa, the mysterious mother of one of his patients. Sensing danger, Tiago's mother Maria pleads with Santa Muerte to protect her family as the rising tensions in the city threaten to explode." From what I've seen from other reviewers has been very mixed. And here's my two...
