The Favourite Movie Review

A Better Title Would Be, The Boring

I regrettably saw The Favourite a little while ago. I wanted to see this film because of my love of period and historical films, but what I got was a huge underwhelming let down.
The film opens to an 18th Century setting, where we meet our principle characters, Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz), a close friend with Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) and Lady Sarah's cousin, Abigail (Emma Stone). With political tensions high, Lady Sarah and Abigail fight for the attention of the Queen to become, her favourite.
I went into this film expecting to see something good, but what I got was two week old leftovers which belonged in the trash. There really isn't much to the characters in this film, and they aren't really fleshed out.
I like Emma Stone. Heck my first review on this blog was of La La Land, and I absolutely loved that film. Unfortunately, though Emma Stone did an all right performance, it's easy to tell this is far from her best work.
I read a couple reviews about this film and I keep reading this is a comedy, and heck even IMDb lists this movie as a comedy as one of its genres. The thing about comedies is, they have to be funny, and I don't remember laughing (maybe once) in this film. This movie lacks any semblance of humor, and if it wants to be associated with comedy, it does a huge disservice.
I did like the sets and costumes in the film. Each of them were well composed and competently made, and it fit the film well.
I found Olivia Colman's character of Queen Anne to be irritable at best. I'm not sure if the filmmakers were going for that sort of feel for her character, but if they were, then they did an outstanding job at it.
Rachel Weisz was... eh.... I guess.
The cinematography as near incompetent at points. I swear, there is such as thing as holding onto a shot for to long, I'm looking at you end of the film. When there are decent shots they are just standard, and tell the visual story okay.
I had high hopes for this film, but I guess I'll let this be a lesson for not getting my hopes up. What a disappointment The Favourite was.

final score: 2/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would
