News Of The World Movie Review

Good But Slow

I just saw News Of The World and yeah, I know I'm late to the party on this one but I haven't had much of a chance to see this one.
News Of The World follows a man named Captain Kidd (Tom Hanks) as he travels across the West reading the news to people. He comes across a lonely girl named Johanna (Helena Zengel) as she is supposed to be brought to her surviving family down in Texas. She doesn't speak English and has been living with the Kiowa. Captain Kidd finds her with some papers saying that she is to be brought to some family down in Texas, and he takes it upon himself to see her there.
This was a good movie, not great, but good. I think I had my exceptions a little high going into this one. The actors did fine. The technical side of News Of The World was good. But what the film was lacking was a stronger conflict.
Tom Hanks is well, Tom Hanks. He's a good actor and does very well in the film. I have no complaints about him. I was really impressed with Helena Zengel. She did a fantastic job for such a young actress. I'm excited to see what she does in the future.
The music was a little lacking. I'm a big fan of the use of silence in film, but I do think News Of The World could have used a little more music. The color scheme was beautiful and the lighting was spot on in the best way possible. The camera work was solid as well. I would have cut maybe a shots a second or two shorter in the editing room though. Otherwise it was great.
There was conflict in the film, but there could have been some more. They introduced some interesting conflicts and antagonists in the film, but they got rid of them pretty quick. The interactions were were well done for what they were.
I think the interaction between Captain Kidd and Johanna were solid and they had a good relationship. The scenes when Captain Kidd is delivering the news were really interesting and some of my favorite scenes in the film.
Would I recommend watching News Of The World? Yeah I think I would. But I would probably recommend waiting to see it on a streaming service. It is always nice to see a new Western film, and I think News Of The World did an alright job.

final score: 3.8/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would

The Batman Movie Review

The Batman Movie Review A Solid Noir Film I went and saw The Batman the other day with one of my buddies and I must say, we really enjoyed it. Granted I don't think this movie is for everyone. The Batman follows Batman (Robert Pattinson) during his second year of crime fighting. When the mayor of Gotham is killed by The Riddler (Paul Dano), it is up to Batman with the help of James Gordon (Jeffery Wright), and Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) to stop him. From a visual point of view, The Batman is gorgeous. Every frame is a painting. The acting is solid, the plot is solid. The musical score is outstanding. I personally loved the film, but there are some things in it that could off-set some Batman fans. I typically get into the acting first, but like you've probably already heard many reviewers say before, the city is a character in this film. Gotham feels real, grounded, and certainly not a place you'd want to visit. Corruption and crime run rampant at every level of society. The
