Wonder Woman 1984 Movie Review

It was ok...

So, I just saw Wonder Woman 1984 the other day with my Dad, and it was ok. It's not great or anything, but it was ok.
I'm going to quote IMDb for the plot, "Diana must contend with a work colleague and businessman, whose desire for extreme wealth sends the world down a path of destruction, after an ancient artifact that grants wishes goes missing."
The movie came off as a little long, some of the lines fell flat, and it was pretty cheesy overall. Some of the jokes were alright, and there were a few decent action scenes. Gal Gadot was fine. The actor who played the villain, Max Lord, Pedro Pascal did a decent job.
I'm going to start off with the good. In terms of the DC franchise, it ranks somewhere in the middle. It's not bottom of the barrel, but it's not near the top. My Dad and I laughed at a few of the jokes, and there was one that did stick out to me when I watched it. Some of the action scenes were alright.
Gal Gadot is decent, but I would have liked to have seen a little more range from her. I think she did better in the first Wonder Woman film. Chris Pine was pretty good too. I actually enjoyed Pedro Pascal's performance a lot more than I thought I would, and there was just enough range and dynamic to his character that made him stand out. In a world where Villains in Superhero films can make or break a film, I think he brought this film up a notch.
The pacing was kind of a slog at times. I think this movie could have easily been made 15 minutes shorter than it was at the bare minimum. There were some scenes that should have been cut or shortened.
Some of the lines just fell flat on arrival. I don't blame the actors for this, I blame the writers. The actors did fine with what they were given. I think if there was at least two more weeks for the script to have been developed, this would have been a boon to the film.
There was some general cheesyness overall. Especially in the mall scene form the trailer. I think if they would have constructed that scene a little differently, it would have worked. The premise for the scene itself is pretty solid and would have made a great intro (after a brief prologue flashback scene), but the filmmakers didn't exactly pull it off.
One other thing I did like was Gal Gadot and Chris Pine together. I do think they carried over some over the charm from the first Wonder Woman film, but I would have liked to have seen them throw a little more emotion behind it than they did.
The best part of this film was that it provided a temporary distraction to what is going on in the world at the moment. It was nice to forget, even just for a little bit. In that way, I applaud the film for making me focus on the film itself.
Would I recommend seeing Wonder Woman 1984? Eh? If you're dying to get out and go to the theater, I would recommend considering to see it, otherwise if you can wait, wait for it to come out on TV.

final score: 3/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would

The Batman Movie Review

The Batman Movie Review A Solid Noir Film I went and saw The Batman the other day with one of my buddies and I must say, we really enjoyed it. Granted I don't think this movie is for everyone. The Batman follows Batman (Robert Pattinson) during his second year of crime fighting. When the mayor of Gotham is killed by The Riddler (Paul Dano), it is up to Batman with the help of James Gordon (Jeffery Wright), and Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz) to stop him. From a visual point of view, The Batman is gorgeous. Every frame is a painting. The acting is solid, the plot is solid. The musical score is outstanding. I personally loved the film, but there are some things in it that could off-set some Batman fans. I typically get into the acting first, but like you've probably already heard many reviewers say before, the city is a character in this film. Gotham feels real, grounded, and certainly not a place you'd want to visit. Corruption and crime run rampant at every level of society. The
