They Shall Not Grow Old

This Is The Best WWI Film I Have Ever Seen

I just got back from the theater, and I saw They Shall Not Grow Old, with my Grandpa. I don't do much with him, but I'm glad we saw this movie together.
They Shall Not Grow Old is a documentary with the original footage from WWI, and it's narrated by veteran's of the war. The premise of the film is simple, just show what these men had to endure, during daily life on the Western Front.
This film is truly incredible, and I mean that in every sense of the word. They hired lip readers to figure out what the people in the footage were saying, and then hired actors from the region the soldiers were from and we got the privilege to hear what they had to say.
I think this is the most important film on WWI that shows what life was like for the people that lived it. Well, the reason is, it's the ones who lived telling us what happened. You can't help but to feel in awe of the struggles of these men.
I love history, and history films. They Shall Not Grow Old is one of the few great glimpses into history which we rarely get to see. Peter Jackson did a fantastic job at making this film. It took him about four years, and he held a bit of personal investment in this documentary. Peter Jackson's grandfather was a WWI veteran. Mr. Jackson also has quite a large collection of WWI memorabilia, and after the credits they have a 30 minute min doc which shows how they made the film. It's worth staying till the end to watch.
The sound in this film and the footage captured will transport you through time, and make you see a glimpse of what these men endured. The sound in this film is just so captivating, it holds your attention and doesn't let go. Seeing the men on footage and knowing many of them probably died in the war is heart wrenching.
When we got to the credits, save for the people that left the theater, it felt as though if we were to make a sound it would be a sin.  Most of the people around me and my own grandfather just sat in silence until the lights came back on letting us know the movie was over.
This movie is without a doubt the best WWI film I have ever seen. If you get a chance to see it in theaters and are hesitant about the higher ticket price, I tell you this, They Shall Not Grow Old is worth every penny.

final score: 5/5

Uncharted Movie Review

Uncharted Movie Review Not As Good As The Games I went and saw the movie Uncharted a while ago, and it was as I expected it to be. If you are a fan of the games, well... prepare for disappointment. Uncharted follows Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a low level thief as he is recruited by Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to go on a treasure hunt. As someone who has played some of the games, but not all, I have to say that the Uncharted film is what I thought it would be. A mishmash of all four games but not committing to any of them. The acting is a bit stale, and the plot is predictable. The camera work was fine, but the music was underused. Tom Holland should not have been Nathan Drake. He lacks the charisma, the attitude, and the charm. He may have passed for a teenage Nathan Drake, but he should have only been in a few scenes. I'm not the biggest fan of Tom Holland either long time readers may know. Now, onto Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. Mark Wahlberg is way too young to be playi

Coda Movie Review

Coda Movie Review This Deserved Best Picture So, I just got back from seeing Coda, and it was amazing! This was the second attempt to see this film as the first time, someone booked the entire theater for a private screening. I'm going to take from a summary from IMDB to summarize the plot: " As a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) Ruby is the only hearing person in her deaf family. When the family's fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her passion at Berklee College of Music and her fear of abandoning her parents." The acting was  phenomenal, the  cinematography was beautiful, and the story was human. The way this film is crafted is nothing short but excellent. I will not that not everything is 100% accurate, but for narrative reasons, I understand the choices they made. The actors have amazing chemistry together. Everything feels natural between them and they all bring their characters to life. No performance fell flat. I perhaps would
