So last night with some friends I went and saw the new film IT. I was surprised by how amazing the film was, and IT was truly amazing.
The story follows a group of "loser" friends as they go through tragedy, coming of age things that happen in junior high, laughs, oh and a demonic clown that wants to eat them, they must overcome the trials of their youth while facing a deadly monster. And this story is done extremely well, and I am surprised how amazing it was.
Okay so did child actors wakeup one day and suddenly decide to become just absolutely amazing? Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Because really it really blows me away by how good the child actors are, I mean they're better than many adult actors! So I would like to say thank you for putting on a great show to Jaeden Lieberher playing Bill Denbrough, Jeremy Ray Taylor playing Ben Hanscom, Sophia Lillis playing Beverly Marsh, Finn Wolfhard playing Richie Tozier, Chosen Jacobs Mike Hanlon, Jack Dylan Grazer Eddie Kaspbrak, and Wyatt Oleff playingStanley Uris, bravo to you all and you all deserve to win awards when award season comes along. These kids brought a lot of heart to the film in a way that I believe that only they could, they were cast perfectly, again great job to the kids in this film they really have great talent.
Then there's Bill SkarsgƄrd, playing Pennywise the dancing clown, which he did a great job portraying (note I haven't read the book). There was a scene at the beginning of the film that I was kinda surprised to see, and it was done effectively. With the character of Pennywise there is some terror and comedy brought to this performance that is greatly appreciated.
Something else that really did stand out for me was the films music score, it was almost a character of its own. The music is very pronounced and present and is played effectively to match the scene its with perfectly.
There are a few flaws in it like most films, there's a little bit of cringe in some scenes but this is very rare in the film and it seems like it was supposed to be done on purpose, which I understand why they did it and they did do it well. But overall my complaints with this film are minor and few and far between.
I originally was thinking of giving this film a 3.5 when it was going on but throughout the film my base score of 3.5 went up to a 3.7, then it kept getting better so it went up to a 4 and when I walked out of the theater I was thinking maybe a 4.2, but after writing this review and thinking about the great performances the film is demanding of me to give it a higher score. This is a must watch film, and I do plan on seeing it at least one more time in theaters it looks like it will be very rewatchable. I also plan on buying this film when its sold in stores. And as a final note, at the very end right after the title card I believe it happened, we the audience saw something that got us excited that we didn't know if they were going to do this or not. Go out and see this heartfelt, comedic, dramatic, horror, coming of age story as soon as possible, its well worth the watch!
final score: 4.5/5
