Rebecca Movie Review

Rebecca Movie Review A Well Made Film But Could Have Been Better This adaptation of Rebecca is all right based off of what I know of the story. Though it it hard to live up to Hitchcock. I'm going to keep it simple and quote from IMDB for the synopsis, " After a whirlwind romance in Monte Carlo with handsome widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer), a newly married young woman (Lily James) arrives at Manderley, her new husband's imposing family estate on a windswept English coast. Naive and inexperienced, she begins to settle into the trappings of her new life, but finds herself battling the shadow of Maxim's first wife, the elegant and urbane Rebecca, whose haunting legacy is kept alive by Manderley's sinister housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristin Scott Thomas). Written by Netflix " The cinematography and the color scheme are good. Lily James seems to fit her role well and so does Armie Hammer. However there is something that is a bit off. I can't exactly put ...

5 Movies To Watch During Self Isolation

5 Movies To Watch During Self Isolation To Get Your Mind Off Of Things For A While So, now that many of us are in self isolation, there is a lot of free time on our hands. So, to help pass the time, I've created a list of 5 movies to to get your mind off of things for a while. Each movie is from a different genre. I thought a little variety would be good. Click on the title of the movie to pull up the review and see if it's right for you. I think most of us could use a little escapism at the moment. So, lets get right into it! 5. The Lost City Of Z The Lost City Of Z is a historical adventure which is based on true events. Charlie Hunnam in my opinion is an under appreciated actor and he really shines in this film. I know there's a book about the events as well, but I haven't read it yet. If you're looking for a little adventure, consider The Lost City Of Z . 4. Stonehearst Asylum   Stonehearst Asylum is a gothic film. If you're looking fo...

31 Posts Of Halloween: Angelica

Angelica is a 2015 gothic horror film set in Victorian England, which is pretty decent. Angelica is about a young couple that has a daughter. The couple is of the mother, Constance (Jena Malone), and the father, Dr. Joseph Barton (Ed Stoppard). It's probably then a given, that their daughter's name is Angelica. Constance starts to become more protective of her daughter, and soon some ghostly things start happening around the house. I was surprised to find out that the actress that plays Constance, Jena Malone, also played Johanna Mason in The Hunger Games Franchise. This is a dark film, and by dark I mean in tone but not in overall style. It gives a glimpse into the lives of people from another time who just so happen to suffer from a supernatural plight. I did find the tone of the film quite interesting. Yet the entire style is in a word, captivating. Angelica is one film that I will want to have a second viewing of, because I feel as though it will require it. Granted t...

31 Posts Of Halloween: Stonehearst Asylum

Stonehearst Asylum is a 2014 gothic film that truly is gothic.  Stonehearst Asylum follows  Dr. Edward Newgate (Jim Sturgess), fresh from Oxford, as he is sent to an Asylum to complete his training. At the asylum he becomes infatuated with one of the patients, Mrs. Eliza Graves (Kate Beckinsale), and he assists Dr. Silas Lamb (Ben Kingsley), yet there is something unusual about this asylum, more than one normally would think. Now, this movie is based off of a story by Edgar Allen Poe, of which whom, I consider myself a fan of, and after watching Stonehearst Asylum, I want to read the original story. Since I do own a copy of the Complete Works Of Edgar Allen Poe, I just might read it soon enough. Now this movie is gothic in the truest sense of the word. It has insanity, romance, beautiful twists and turns, mystery, and creeping about at night in those long corridors. You don't see many gothic films, and that's a shame, because if there could be more produced in the manner ...

31 Posts Of Halloween: It Follows

It Follows is a horror film that came out in 2014. This movie for the most part is pretty good, but there are a few flaws in it that are noticeable. The movie is about a teen gal named Jay (Maika Monroe), that after a sexual encounter with a boyfriend a being starts to follow her, and if it gets to her, it will kill her. The movie is simple enough, and is very straight forward with it's premise. This is a plot driven film, with little character development.  The creature itself is not really scary in appearance, but it can change how it looks to try and get closer to you.  The more I think about this film, the more I start to think that it has some elements of Gothic literature in it. First though, I should note that gothic literature came out of the Romantic period as more of a dark side to the time. Some common elements in gothic literature are: damsels in distress, supernatural beings, old architecture, dark atmosphere, mystery, strong emotion, and situatio...
